Secretary-General, Asia Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association,
Dr. Prasun Kumar Das is currently the Secretary General of Asia-Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (APRACA) based in Bangkok. As head of the representative body of central banks, development financial institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, he has been instrumental in engaging with national governments, regional organizations (APEC, SAARC, ASEAN) and international agencies to influence policy and elucidate the narrative of financial inclusion, agricultural and MSME finance and in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to this assignment Prasun worked as the Regional Project Manager of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) grant project where he was managing five (5) country teams in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand and was leading the innovative rural and agricultural finance piloting. Dr. Das served as the Research Director for South Asia in LANSA (DFID Project on Agricultural nutrition in South Asia). He was also an Associate Professor in Agri-Business Management and Finance, Downscaling Expert for World Bank assisted project, international expert consultant in Agricultural Value Chain Development and Finance for Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Senior Management position in public sector bank and rural development expert/advisor to the Govt. of India.
Prasun is considered to be leading expert in Rural and agricultural finance with 26 years of experience in South Asia, Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa and has been instrumental in advocating for development of industry infrastructure to manage risk; including establishment of a Guarantee Fund, Price Stabilization Fund and influencing policy makers in the national governments in creating enabling environment to enhance the flow of rural credit and also actively pursuing establishment of a regional training institute on value chain finance.
He holds a Doctoral Degree in Agricultural Sciences and MBA with specialization in Financial Management and Certified Professional Project Management (PMP) specialist. He also led number of action research projects and impact assessment studies related to agricultural value chains, agribusiness finance and climate smart agriculture and financing options. There are 6 books, 5 country study reports, 3 training toolkit and more than 15 research papers in his credit in the areas of agricultural finance. Prasun is a passionate to learn the cultural diversity in the countries and travelled to more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Americas.
