KUCHING, July 25 — Sarawak will organise a two-day International Conference on Agriculture and Agro based industry Sarawak 2017 (ICAAS 2017) from August 21-22 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this would be the first time the Sarawak government is hosting an important agriculture conference for the state themed ‘Transforming Agriculture through Commercialisation’.
The main objectives of the conference are to share knowledge and best practices in agriculture and the agro-based industry; to explore effective agriculture delivery system in order to transform the agriculture sector and to identify opportunities in the utilisation of digital technology to leapfrog the development of sustainable and competitive agriculture.
Uggah said, in conjunction with the conference, there would also be an exhibition organised featuring agriculture and agro based industry products by both local and international private sectors, institutions and government agencies.
“We are expecting 20 renowned local and international speakers, who are experts in agriculture and agro based industry to share their knowledge, experiences and expertise in their respective fields of specialisation with the participants,” he told a press conference here today.
He added the conference would highlight current issues, challenges, trends, opportunities and the way forward in agriculture and agro based industry for Sarawak.
